After the final of the World Cup, which Spain won over Argentina 1:0, US President Donald Trump became the protagonist of embarrassing moments. He presented the trophy to the Spaniards, but did not leave the stage afterwards, despite the efforts of the FIFA president to get him a little out of the picture.

FIFA planned for the US president to present the trophy to the winners after the World Cup final.

That’s what happened tonight at MetLife Stadium. Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino took the stage together with the trophy and presented it to Spain captain Rodrigo.

Infantino subsequently withdrew, but Trump remained with the Spanish players, turning first to Gavi, then to Rodri. The captain of “La Roja” gracefully signaled him to withdraw, but Trump, somehow confused, continued to interact with the Spanish players.

He ended up moving to the opposite side of where Gianni Infantino had retreated to, and the FIFA president, probably sensing the awkwardness of the situation, ran to the podium to show him where to go.

Finally, Rodri lifted the trophy with Trump and Infantino at their sides. Practically on stage were Spain players, coach Luis de la Fuente, FIFA president, Donald Trump and obvious embarrassment.

Paradoxically, equally funny scenes they also took place a year agoafter the final of the Club World Cup, Chelsea – PSG 3:0. Even then, FIFA asked the American president to present the prize to the winning team. And even then, Trump remained on the podium while lifting the trophy.
