A simple trick to cool the interior of the car without air conditioning

In the summer, a car left in the sun turns into a real stove in a few minutes. The confined space does not allow heat to escape, and the internal surfaces actively absorb radiation. Turning on the air conditioning immediately after entering the car is a bad idea: the compressor must work at maximum, trying to cool the hot air. This is useful, but electronics resources are quickly depleted.

Japanese drivers have come up with a clever trick that requires neither fuel nor air conditioning. It is enough just to lower one window and open and close the door on the opposite side several times. The difference in pressure makes the door work like a powerful pump – the hot air escapes through an open hole and the street air is sucked in instead.

According to automotive engineers, this method allows to reduce the temperature in the passenger compartment by 8-10 degrees. The simple procedure only takes about thirty seconds. First, you need to fully lower the front passenger door glass. The driver then goes to his door and makes five or six precise but careful cycles – opening it and almost closing it, but not before it clicks. There is no point in hitting harder, it is enough just to create an air flow without unnecessary vibrations for the body.

The principle of operation resembles a kitchen hood, where the role of the fan is performed by the car structure itself. This is especially important to preserve the windshield – a sharp drop in temperature when the heater or air conditioner is turned on often leads to cracks. By the way, the method reduces the peak load on plastic and electronics, which extends their life.

As noted by experts, this technique helps to avoid overheating of the alternator battery immediately after starting. The devices do not receive maximum load from the instant start of the air conditioner. But you should not overdo it – excessive care can lead to wear of the door hinges. Everything is fine as long as it is in moderation.

An open window or an air conditioner – which is better in the heat?

After the heating leaves the cabin, it is better to drive for a few minutes with the windows open and only then turn on the cooling. However, you cannot fail to pay attention to the general condition of the car. If the radiator is clogged with poplar fluff and has not been diagnosed for a long time, no tricks will save the engine from overheating in a traffic jam. The cleanliness of the radiator grills is the key to normal heat exchange in the summer.

In addition, it is worth considering an athermal film. It does not block light, but perfectly reflects infrared radiation. Such protection will not allow the interior to heat up and will allow you to less often resort to extreme ventilation.
