A new era has begun in SK Slovan Bratislava. While coach Vladimír Weiss st. has been rather conservative about deploying young players, Yaya Touré has shown from the beginning that he is not afraid of it.

Before the opening match of the 2nd preliminary round of the Champions League at the Georgian FC Iberia 1999, Tbilisi lost the key man of the offensive Tigran Barseghjan due to an injury. He included 21-year-old Alexej Maroš in the starting line-up for the first time. And he shone with a goal assist. Slovan finally triumphed 2:0.

“I enjoyed it, I was looking forward to it before the match. I’m very happy that the coach gave me a chance, I’m working very well under him. It looked like I was going to play during the week, so I set myself up like that. I did everything to make it as good as possible. There was no nervousness, I was rather looking forward to it.” he said after the meeting.

He scored 14 goals last season

Maroš played his sixth match for Slovan. So far, he had three in the Slovak Cup and two in the league, and he never played for more than 30 minutes. He gathered experience in the second league reserve. Last season, he scored 14 goals and 3 assists in 26 games, only the experienced Jakub Sylvestr from Zvolen had more accurate hits.

Maroš impressed during his debut in the starting line-up in the Champions League. He had good movement, played with ease. He believed in himself with the ball, he also worked well in defensive activities. At the beginning of the second half hour, he crossed for Alasana Yirajang’s acrobatic goal.

“I’m glad it went that way. He hit it great and I got an assist.” the 21-year-old pupil was happy.

Maroš self-critically: I lacked peace at the end

He could have scored before, but in the 14th minute, he only shot into the middle of the goal from close range in front of the goalkeeper.

“I missed a bit of peace,” evaluated self-critically.

Coach Yaya Touré, for whom it was the first competitive match on the Slovan bench, left Maroš on the field until the 80th minute.

Goalkeeper Dominik Takáč also praised the young man after the match: “He had good situations there. Let him last, let him be healthy and let him make us happy. Let him give assists, goals, we will all be happy. He is a good guy, I’m glad he caught on like this.”
