Greece introduced stricter controls on its beaches with the aim of maintaining order, protecting the environment and ensuring a more comfortable experience for visitors during the summer season.
Authorities use drones and increase police patrols to monitor beaches and respond to violations. Fines are imposed for activities that disturb other holidaymakers, with beach games such as rackets only permitted in areas where they do not create a nuisance. Those who ignore the rules face a fine of 1,000 euros.
Loud music on the beach is also considered a serious breach of public order. Tourists who disturb the peace with excessive noise can be fined up to 500 euros.
Visitors are reminded that they must leave beaches clean after their stay. Anyone causing environmental damage or polluting coastal areas faces sanctions, while cases of seawater contamination attract particularly heavy fines.
Safety rules for water activities are also strictly enforced. People participating in water sports must wear a life jacket, while those using paddle boards must follow all safety requirements. Authorities also reminded tourists that it is prohibited to enter the sea with paddle boards at night.
Police continue to report widespread violations of the free camping ban. The penalty for illegal camping remains 300 euros per person and authorities urge visitors to respect the restrictions.
