“My studio is actually my own room. Everything that people see as the final result on Dara’s Eurovision costume happens literally a meter from my bed. I don’t have a big team behind me, nor a famous fashion brand. I do everything myself – from design and photography to videos, make-up and hair.”
This is shared by the young designer Viktor Garbeshkov – the talent behind Dara’s impressive “furry” costume for Eurovision.
Although still a student at NABA Milano, where he studies fashion design, Victor is already a name attracting attention. For him, fashion is not just a garment, but an art form and a way to show one’s inner world through one’s vision.
“On social networks, everything looks glamorous and professional, but the truth is that behind it is a lot of work and sleepless nights. I am proud that I achieve everything by myself and that more and more popular personalities trust me,” he says.
His work with Dara began even before he graduated from the “St. Luke” art school in Sofia. Thanks to the stylist Ivan Tsutsumanov, the two meet and from the very beginning Viktor feels that the project will be special.
“Dara is very easy to work with. She is an artist who can bring the most daring idea to life, so I allowed myself to experiment more,” says the designer.
The idea for the “Eurovision” vision came quickly – a modern interpretation of a kuker costume, which would have a Bulgarian spirit, but also a modern sound.
“We wanted to have a reference to kukers – a symbol that chases away evil and brings strong energy. We started with furry pants and a corset for the “Bangaranga” music video, and then the idea for the complete stage costume was born,” says Viktor.
However, the crafting is far from easy. The designer wants everything to be “vegan”, so instead of real leather, he uses synthetic hair braids, which he arranges by hand by color, length and shape.
“I was literally building the silhouette hair by hair to match her real hair. I wanted everything to look like one piece,” he explains.
Due to Dara’s busy schedule, the two hardly have time for rehearsals. The costume was completed just two days before the deadline, and Victor personally wears it to make the final adjustments.
Despite expectations of negative reactions, the singer’s look has been extremely well received both by fans and on social networks.
“We were prepared for hate, but the opposite happened – people liked the idea. Dara deserves this recognition,” says the designer.
In addition to Dara, Victor has already worked with names such as Gloria Petkova, Diona, Mila Robert and Jazel from Skuzland, for whom he is preparing a look for the “Meta Gala” in New York.
“More big projects are yet to come,” hints the young designer.
