Hristo Stoichkov biopic revealed with two versions for Bulgaria and abroad

The production team behind the next movie about Bulgarian football legend Christo Stoitchkov revealed the first impressions of the project, as well as its official strategy for releasing two titles aimed at different audiences. The presentation took place on April 9 at the ARTVENT Hub in Sofia, marking the movieThis is the first major public introduction.

The film will be released under two distinct titles depending on the market. In Bulgariait will appear as “Stoitchkov – Once upon a time Bulgaria“, while international audiences will see it as “Stoitchkov – Against all odds. According to the creative team, the approach aims to reflect both a national narrative and a universal story of ambition and achievement.

Director Martin Makariev explained that the two titles offer two perspectives on the same life story. He described “Once upon a time in Bulgaria” as evoking a sense of nostalgia and personal formation, while “Against All Odds” frames Stoitchkovour country’s journey as one of perseverance and global success. “These are two perspectives on the same story,” Makariev said.

During the event, the team also presented three key visual concepts inspired by the definition of the stages of StoitchkovCareer: his time with the Bulgarian national team, his career at CSKA Sofia and his achievements with FC Barcelona. Each visual direction is intended to highlight different emotional and biographical layers of his journey, from his beginnings in Bulgaria to international recognition.

Attendees were also able to view material from the official photoshoot of the movieThe posters, offering a first glimpse of its visual style and the cinematic representation of the central character.

The role of Stoitchkov is performed by Kristo Stoitchkovwhich was selected as part of the reality TV format “You’re Already Playing… Stoitchkov“, which aired on NOVA. The show served as a casting process and marked the beginning of her preparation for the role.

Speaking of the challenge, Kristo Stoitchkov noted the demands of playing such a well-known figure. “Preparing for the role of Stoitchkov it means adopting a pace, a discipline and a character that brooks no compromise,” he said, adding that public expectations add both pressure and motivation.

The presentation also coincided with a personal moment, as the main actor celebrated his birthday with the team and guests of the event.

THE moviedirected by Martin Makariev, is developed with emphasis on Stoitchkovthe path of Bulgaria to the notoriety of world football. The creative team includes Alexander Sano and Vladimir Pamukov, with the screenplay written by Georgi Angelov.

Positioned as a nationwide production, “Stoitchkov – Once upon a time Bulgaria / Against All Odds” aims to depict both the individual footballer’s story and a wider narrative of determination and national identity, with ambitions for domestic and international audiences.
