Máj offers powerful stories and laughter in Slovak theaters from The Marriage of Figaro to Peter Pan the Fool

We can also look forward to several novelties in Slovak theaters in the coming weeks. May will also bring the premiere of the play with Tána Pauhofová in the main role.

The past month offered several premieres in theaters in our capital. In May, however, there will be no shortage of news throughout Slovakia.

Check out the overview of premieres that await us in theaters already this month:

The Marriage of Figaro

  • Theatre: Slovak National Theatre
  • Premiere: May 22

The immortal operatic comedy about love, confusion, infidelity and forgiveness called The Marriage of Figaro will be presented at the end of May at the Slovak National Theatre.

The plot focuses on the new object of desire of the suitor, Count Almaviva, who is Zuzanka, the chamberlain countess and fiancée of his butler Figaro. Therefore, shortly before the wedding, the young couple must use all their wits to not only avoid love proposals from the aristocratic employer and secure their marriage, but also to revive the Almaviv family’s marital relationship. And as if that wasn’t enough, the young Cherubín, who balances between gender norms and social conventions, also gets involved in the plot.

Based on Pierre de Beaumarchais’ politically explosive comedy about freedom, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his librettist Lorenzo da Ponte have created an operatic work that is as captivating as it is wise, and whose music continues to fascinate audiences around the world with its bravado and freshness. And precisely wisdom, humor and a strong artistic gesture are the keys with which director Jiří Heřman unlocks this immortal opera story.

La Traviata

  • Theater: National Theater Košice
  • Premiere: May 23

Košice reports the return of the most performed opera by the genius Giuseppe Verdi, which is a sharp critique of the Parisian glitz of the 19th century, in which the glittering party world clashes with harsh social reality.
