The film General Golian is exceptional in that it does not only bear witness to the Slovak National Uprising. It brings a story that goes much further than the war itself. The story of a person, human destiny, the story of a strong and yet extremely fragile relationship between the commander of the Slovak National Uprising, Ján Golian, and his wife, Jarmila. However, precisely at the time of the raging World War II and only 3 weeks after the birth of their longed-for son Ivan, Ján Golian is faced with a life test and a decision that will change his life and the fate of not only his family, but the entire country. Before deciding whether he will command the Slovak insurgent army, which has decided to stand up to Nazi Germany, or whether he will choose a safe life by the side of his longed-for family.

Battle scenes gave way to emotions: the director wanted authentic heroes without serial faces.

Although the spectacular battle scenes are a natural part of the film and faithfully copy the history of the uprising in which up to 30 nations fought, the heart of the picture lies elsewhere. It is an intimate look into the inside of a family.

” reveals the actor Ondrej Hraška. For the portrayal of the general, not only his striking physical resemblance was key, but especially the psychological dimension of the character. Director, screenwriter and producer Juraj Štepka also highlights the mild nature of the general: “The casting was based on believability – the visual similarity to historical models will not be denied by both main actors, neither Ondrej Hraška nor Anna Prášilová Fialová in the role of Jarmila. The creators deliberately avoided clichés when casting. ‘ Štepka explains.

Milan Mikulčík, Ondřej Brzobohatý, Juraj Bača, Dominika Morávková, as well as Robert Ritter, Rainer Wöss, Zoe Straub and others will appear in the strong international cast. The multicultural dimension of SNP is also underlined by the fact that up to six languages ​​are heard in the film: Slovak, Czech, German, Russian, French and English.

The film General Golian was co-produced by STVR, its creation was supported by the Audiovisual Fund, the partners of the film are the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic, the Trnava Autonomous Region, the Trenčín Autonomous Region, the Nitra Autonomous Region, and the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic.
