Diego Simeone made a triple substitution at the break, but it didn’t help. In the 54th minute, Perez scored his second goal of the game to make it 5-1.
By the end, both teams finished the match, with Villarreal earning the third place after showing much more desire in the match. The team finished with an asset of 72 points – three ahead of fourth placed Atlético.
