Turkey’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Iva Petrova discussed natural gas trade and strengthening energy connectivity at a meeting in Istanbul. This is clear from a publication on the official profile of the Turkish Energy Minister on “Facebook”, quoted by BTA. At a press conference yesterday, Petrova stated that the subject of the revision of the contract with the Turkish gas company ““Botash” is a priority.
The meeting
“We met with the new Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Iva Petrova within the framework of #INRES2026 (meeting on the management of natural resources) in Istanbul. During the conversation we discussed in detail how we can contribute to the trade in natural gas, the strengthening of the interconnectors for electricity and natural gas, the opportunities for cooperation in the Black Sea, the security of the supply chain,” wrote Alparslan Bayraktar after his meeting yesterday with Iva Petrova.
In the publication, the energy minister expressed confidence that the growing cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey in the field of energy, which contributes to the security of the regional supply chain, will progress even more decisively.
On February 18, 2026, the Turkish state oil company TPAO and Shell signed a partnership agreement for exploration of oil and natural gas deposits in the exclusive economic zone of Bulgaria in the Black Sea.
The partnership granted Turkey a five-year exploration license in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone. The Khan Tervel block covers 3,800 square kilometers and is adjacent to the Turkish Sakaria gas field, which is home to the largest gas deposit in Turkey’s Black Sea waters.
