From July 4 to August 6, 2026 the courtyard of Bratislava Castle will be transformed into a theater scene full of drama, passion, tension, humor and poetry. The festival will bring six exceptional productions of the works of the greatest playwright of all time – William Shakespeare. Spectators can look forward to exceptional theatrical experiences and the unmistakable atmosphere of summer evenings under the open sky.
SShakespeare is more than just an author from the past. His plays cross the borders of time, nations and cultures. They deal with topics that are still relevant – the desire for power, morality, love, jealousy and other human weaknesses.” says festival director Janka Zednikovičová.
Festival program – six evenings, great stories and strong emotions
Much ado about nothing – the premiere directed by Jakub Nvota will open our Shakespearean gates. We are convinced that intelligent humor, verbal exchanges and the tension between love and pride can appeal to today’s audience even after centuries. A timeless story full of emotions, intrigue and comical situations reminds us that sometimes the biggest commotion is caused by the little things. adds the director.
Othello (guest production from Prague) – directed by Braň Holiček. A glorious study of jealousy and a tragic tale of the pernicious power of gossip. How easy is it to destroy the sincere love of even a strong and proud person when someone begins to etch his soul with poisonous words?
The Winter’s tale – for the first time, the program line will include a production in English based on the script from the No Fear Shakespeare edition, which offers modern, comprehensible English while preserving the original meaning and style of the work. The production is the result of cooperation with Art Academy students from the city of Poprad
A comedy of errors directed by Roman Polák – a dynamic comedy about identity confusion, in which two pairs of twins take care of an avalanche of misunderstandings and crazy situations.
Taming of the Shrew directed by Michal Vajdička – a provocative play about love, the power of words and social expectations with great potential for modern interpretations.
The festival will close with a production A Midsummer Night’s Dream from OSTRAVAdirected by Adéla Laštovková Stodolová.
